W2W Circular Economy Masterclass: How can digital tech enhance circularity in waste valorisation

The Circular Economy Masterclass was an introduction to circular economy principles for entrepreneurs and organisations considering circularity in their businesses.

For most of the audience, the W2W digital tools (digital product passport, life cycle sustainability assessment too, material volume estimator and supply chain optimisation) was their first encounter on the application of digital technologies to improve the sustainability of business practices and products.

A key contribution of W2W to the masterclass was exposing the audience to technologies innovations in the circular economy and making them more receptive of using digital technologies to enhance circularity especially in waste valorisation.

As W2W continues to develop its digital tools, more workshops will be arranged to showcase them to a wider audience.

A few testimonials from the audience:

“The Wood-to-Wood (W2W) project has deepened our understanding of circular economy practices by demonstrating how waste materials can be transformed into valuable resources. It also reinforced the critical role of innovation and collaboration in building sustainable systems—while simultaneously pioneering the use of digital tools to amplify impact” – Thokozani Mzileni, Research Assistant at UJ PEETS

“The Wood2Wood project presented valuable insights on how technologies and innovation can enable a circular economy for the wood value chain and beyond. CSA is looking forward to seeing these tools in practice” – Katharina Gihring, Project Lead, Circular South Africa

“The CSA Masterclass was an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge on how digitalisation can accelerate circularity. Our contribution focused on showcasing how the Integrated Circular Digital Platform brings together diverse tools from the Digital Product Passport to LCA and supply chain modules to support transparency and traceability across wood value chains. I strongly believe that such initiatives pave the way for practical, scalable solutions to meet EU Circular Economy objectives” – Vasilis Poulikakos, eBOS, Wood2Wood Project

In the Wood2Wood project, eBOS is developing a platform that will integrate the digital tools (below) developed in the project into a common multifunctional and interoperable platform.

➡️Material Volume Estimation Tool
➡️Supply Chain management Tool for the optimisation of upcycling of secondary materials,
