Join the Circular South Africa Masterclass: Learn to build sustainable and innovative businesses in this inspiring workshop!

On August 21, Circular Economy South Africa in collaboration with UJ PEETS is organising a hands-on workshop designed to provide entrepreneurs and innovators with practical tools to embrace sustainable business practices and drive positive change in their industries.

This program, hosted by Katharina Gihring and featuring Mark Lamani as facilitator, will delve into the current reality and core concepts of the Circular Economy, specifically exploring policy in South Africa.

Wood2Wood project will be presented as a practical case study in which our consortium member Vasilis Poulikakos from eBOS will drop insights on the project’s digital tools that will enable circular flows of secondary raw materials.

What are the W2W Digital Tools?

W2W is developing digital tools that will create enabling conditions for various stakeholders to conduct sustainability performance assessments and integrate life cycle thinking across the wood waste cascade upcycling process. For example, our LCA-based tool from DRAXIS will predict and assess the impact of different cascade paths or sequences for possible further uses of wood products and their materials.

Then, the Supply Chain Optimisation (SCO) tool being developed by CIGIP-UPV will streamline the upcycling of secondary raw materials, making this tool a key element of our ongoing commitment to sustainable and circular logistics.

Our Digital Product Passport (DPP) by CERTH-ITI will contain detailed information about wood-containing product’s materials, components, and environmental impact throughout their lifecycle, which provide data to the LCA tool for assessment. This will ensure transparent data management and interoperability in wood materials.

Ultimately, an integrated circular wood upcycling platform will integrate all the digital tools, including Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment Tool for Cascade Pathways, Supply Chain management Tool for the optimisation of upcycling of secondary materials, and Digital Product Passport, into a common multifunctional and interoperable platform.

Supported by Digital Product Passports and a digital platform, these tools provide evidence-based insights, allowing industry and policymakers to identify trade-offs and make sustainable decisions across the wood material lifecycle.
